The Olympic Club Successfully Hosts Historic U.S. Amateur Championship

The renowned Olympic Club in San Francisco recently hosted the 125th U.S. Amateur Championship, one of the most prestigious competitions in amateur golf. The event was led by Abhishek Sonkar, an Indian professional and the Championship Director, whose skillful management and insight made the event a historic success.

This year’s championship featured 312 players from 18 countries, all competing for the famous Havemeyer Trophy. In a brilliant performance, Mason Howell, an 18-year-old from Georgia, defeated Jackson Herrrington 7&6 to claim the title. Howell became the third-youngest U.S. Amateur champion in history.

A massive team was assembled to support the players—900 volunteers, nearly 60 committee chairs, and over 450 Olympic Club employees all worked together to make this event a success.

The USGA Executive Committee, including the president and senior officials, was fully present for the occasion. Their presence further solidified the importance of this championship and the exceptional hosting capabilities of the Olympic Club.

The atmosphere during the competition was thrilling. Nearly 20,000 spectators were present on the grounds, while millions more enjoyed the historic competition by watching the live broadcast on TV in America and around the world.

For Abhishek Sonkar, who hails from India, this was a milestone. He stated, “This event was not just about golf—it was a story of teamwork, discipline, and bringing thousands of people together with a single goal.”

The 125th U.S. Amateur Championship held at the Olympic Club has become an example of international excellence—where tradition, modern management, and a spirit of collaboration came together perfectly.
